The Old Mckendree

“Preserving the Past to Inspire the Future”

In 1819 skilled workmen built the chapel from huge poplar logs. The first services were held during 1819, and regular church services were held until around 1890. Since then, the chapel has been used for special services such as weddings, baptisms, reunions, and an annual Easter Sunrise Service. In addition, many photographers take advantage of the scenic grounds and buildings for their settings. We regard this as a great compliment on the natural beauty of the grounds, the significance of the buildings, and our effort to maintain and preserve both. If you are unfamiliar with the natural and historical beauty at Old McKendree Chapel, we invite you to come and see what we have to offer.

We would like to take a moment to let you know we are funded entirely through donations (from individuals and churches), and reservation fees from events. With the rising cost of gas and other expenses, it is becoming a challenge to maintain and improve upon the grounds and buildings. Please consider giving a donation to ensure that you and future generations can continue to enjoy the historical appeal we offer. Donations can be made by using the secure donation box inside the chapel, by mail to the Caretakers' address or by the PayPal Donate botton below.
